Rivercrest Junior School students are participating in an e-waste collection challenge and are inviting the community to participate by dropping off old and unwanted electronics to be recycled.
Through their participation in Green Living’s Passion for E-recycling School Challenge, Rivercrest students have learned all about e-waste and how to recycle it, and are now in the midst of hosting an e-waste drop-off depot at their school.
E-waste (or electronic waste) presents special challenges when it comes to end-of-life disposal, because it contains a unique combination of hazardous materials, as well as valuable materials which can be re-purposed.
By dropping e-waste off at Rivercrest this week, local residents will ensure their e-waste is recycled in such a way that both minimizes potential harm, and maximizes recovery of valuable resources.
All e-waste from the Passion for E-recycling School Challenge will be recycled by Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) – an industry leader in Canada for electronic recycling.
Rivercrest JS, 30 Harefield Dr. (near Islington Avenue and Elmhurst Drive), hosts its e-waste drop-off depot until Monday, May 7. Drop-off times are as follows: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, May 3 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
